The Shotgun, combined with the Lasgun, provides the primary offensive punch for the Humans during Stage 1. Although it has a slow repeat rate, its damage per shot is beaten only by the Lucifer Cannon and the Grenade. A team of two shotgunners can easily take down a Dragoon in two shots each, and the spread offered by the weapon serves to aid the user at close range versus Dretches and Basilisks. However, it is not useful at any range beyond close: even for the largest aliens, the shotgun loses its effect almost entirely past medium range.
